Gardener / Handyman
Private House and Garden – Northallerton, North Yorkshire
Full-time preferred; 3.5–4 days per week considered initially
Hours: 08:00 to 16:00 approx. | Salary: Competitive, dependent on experience
We are looking for an experienced, practical Gardener/Handyman to support the Property & Garden Manager with the upkeep and management of a five-acre garden, main house and wider property to the current high standards. The garden combines formal areas, lawns, rockeries, a greenhouse, a small kitchen garden and a modest lake, set around a listed main house, guest house and pool house.
This is a hands-on, varied role encompassing general grounds maintenance, year-round care of the formal gardens, lawns and rockeries, management of the greenhouse and kitchen garden, and upkeep of the lake and its margins. Handyman duties centre on basic plumbing, heating and electrical maintenance, with simple checks and minor repairs across the property. The role also requires close liaison with and regularly assisting professional contractors and tradespeople.
About You:
Candidates will have proven experience in gardening/grounds maintenance and general property or handyman work. An RHS qualification is preferred but not essential; practical experience, horticultural knowledge and good common sense are what matter most.
We are looking for someone passionate, with a strong eye for detail and a willingness to lend themselves to anything, who is physically fit, reliable, discreet, trustworthy and personable with a full, clean driving licence.
This role is for someone seeking longevity and progression rather than a short-term position. The successful candidate will be mentored by the current Property & Garden Manager, with genuine scope to grow into that position.
