Job overview
An exciting opportunity has arisen for an ambitious and collaborative General Manager to join the Community Directorate at Newcastle Hospitals to support the delivery of Neighbourhood Health. As a senior member of the leadership team, you will be responsible for working collaboratively with system partners across the local authority, primary care/general practice, mental health services and our VCSE sector to support the co design and delivery of neighbourhood working, shifting care from hospital to community based on the specific needs of the people and communities we serve. The successful candidate will have a demonstrable understanding of community service delivery across health and social care and have a strong track record on integrated working, service improvement and managing performance.

Main duties of the job
As General Manager for Neighbourhood Health, you will play a key role in supporting the delivery and development of our neighbourhood health model. Working as part of the Clinical Board leadership team, you will:
- Provide strong operational leadership across the neighbourhood health portfolio, ensuring high-quality, safe and effective services are delivered.
- Lead the delivery of performance, quality and financial objectives, ensuring services meet agreed targets and make effective use of resources.
- Work collaboratively across organisational and professional boundaries, developing strong relationships with clinical teams, community services, primary care, local authorities and other partners.
- Support the development and implementation of strategic priorities, translating Trust and wider system ambitions into practical improvements in neighbourhood health services.
- Lead and develop teams, providing effective line management, creating a positive culture and supporting staff to deliver their best.
- Provide expert operational advice and assurance to the Clinical Board and wider leadership teams, ensuring effective governance, risk management and compliance with Trust policies.
- Drive continuous improvement and transformation, identifying opportunities to improve outcomes, patient experience and the way services are delivered closer to home.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
For their area(s) of responsibility within the Clinical Board, the General Manager is responsible for supporting the Clinical Board management team in ensuring:
- Delivery of performance targets and budget management
- The management of all non-medical staff including direct line management of a specific cohort.
- The development and implementation of corporate strategies and decisions within the Trust.
- The provision of timely and accurate advice to the Clinical Board management team and other staff to ensure compliance with Trust policies.
They are able to deputise for members of the Clinical Board management team (as appropriate) when required.
Qualifications & Education
- Degree level of education supplemented by postgraduate study and management or clinical experience to master’s degree level or equivalent.
Knowledge & Experience
- Successful track record and recent relevant experience as a manager within an NHS organisation
- Significant knowledge and understanding of managing acute and community health care services.
- Extensive knowledge of operational, people and financial management.
- Evidence of effectively managing clinical services and change
- Evidence of budgetary and staff management experience
- Evidence of continuing professional development
- Well-developed understanding of health service issues.
- Understanding of key performance targets, measures, clinical and corporate governance requirements.
- Specialty specific knowledge and experience
