Overview

In this role you will support contaminated land assessment and remediation projects as part of WSP’s Ground and Water team in Glasgow. You will work on field investigations, data interpretation, and reporting, while mentoring junior staff and helping deliver projects safely and to high standards. The role blends on-site fieldwork with office analysis, offering strong development through training and mentoring. You will engage with clients and subcontractors within a global, collaborative engineering environment to drive meaningful community impact.

Responsibilities

  • Supervise site investigations and manage field activities
  • Conduct field work: soil logging, environmental sampling, ground gas monitoring
  • Collate, review, and interpret data
  • Mentor junior team members
  • Project management and bid support
  • Assist with site investigation design and technical reports (desk studies, investigation reports, remediation studies)
  • Ensure compliance with procedures and HSE standards
  • Office and site-based work mix
  • Phase 1 desk studies and Phase 2 investigation design and reporting
  • Subcontractor management and client communication

Key requirements

  • On-site experience with site investigations and field work
  • Experience preparing Phase 1 contaminated land/geo-environmental desk studies
  • Knowledge of planning, design, and management of site investigations
  • Soil logging experience
  • Knowledge of CDM Regulations in site investigations
  • Knowledge of UK land contamination regimes and risk-based assessment
  • Knowledge of mine gas risk assessment process
  • Strong report writing and data handling abilities
  • Post-graduate experience (≥4 years) in site investigations, groundwater and ground gas monitoring, and supervising contractors
  • Relevant degree in chemistry, biology, geology, engineering, geography or environmental science
