Overview

In this role you will manage the commercial and contractual aspects of civil infrastructure projects, ensuring profitability and value for clients across multiple sites. You will sit in the commercial function under the Commercial Manager, supporting project teams with contract administration and financial reporting. The role offers exposure to high-profile projects (e.g., Thames Water, HS2) and a path to contribute to the growth of a specialist civils business. You will help shape commercial outcomes through effective negotiation and risk management.

Responsibilities

  • Manage commercial and contractual aspects from inception to final account
  • Prepare, review and administer subcontract agreements and procurement packages
  • Undertake cost forecasting, budgeting and financial reporting
  • Manage valuations, applications for payment and variations
  • Assess and negotiate subcontractor accounts and final accounts
  • Monitor project costs and identify value and performance opportunities
  • Prepare monthly cost reports, cash flow forecasts and commercial reviews
  • Support project teams with contract administration and commercial advice
  • Identify and manage commercial risks and opportunities throughout the lifecycle
  • Liaise with clients, subcontractors, suppliers and internal stakeholders to ensure delivery
  • Ensure compliance with contractual obligations and company procedures
  • Contribute to continuous improvement within the commercial function

Key requirements

  • Degree qualified in Quantity Surveying, Commercial Management, or related discipline
  • Experience as a Quantity Surveyor in civil engineering, utilities, infrastructure, construction or engineering projects
  • Strong knowledge of NEC contracts (NEC3/NEC4 preferred)
  • Excellent commercial awareness and financial management skills
  • Experience preparing and managing subcontract packages
  • Strong negotiation and relationship management skills
  • Ability to interpret contractual documentation and manage change control
  • Proficient in Microsoft Excel and commercial reporting systems
  • Full UK driving licence
  • Chartered status (MRICS) or working towards professional accreditation
  • Experience on airport, utilities, highways, infrastructure or major civil engineering projects
  • Knowledge of JCT contracts
