Overview

In this role you will lead public health design delivery within a multidisciplinary engineering team, shaping sustainable, high-performance built environments. You will collaborate with specialists across sustainability, BIM, and utilities to drive integrated solutions from feasibility to completion. The role emphasizes technical leadership, client engagement, and mentoring junior engineers to deliver complex projects. This is a chance to influence low-carbon, compliant designs on diverse facilities, from science to healthcare.

Responsibilities

  • Lead public health design delivery on a wide range of building projects
  • Design domestic water, gas and drainage systems
  • Produce technical calculations, reports, specifications and design solutions
  • Manage multiple projects ensuring quality, programme and commercial objectives
  • Provide technical leadership and mentoring to junior team members
  • Engage with clients and stakeholders throughout the project lifecycle
  • Coordinate multidisciplinary teams and external consultants
  • Support sustainable and low-carbon design strategies
  • Ensure compliance with legislation, regulations and industry standards
  • Drive digital innovation and identify automation opportunities in project delivery
  • Support delivery of complex local, national and international projects

Key requirements

  • Degree in Building Services Engineering, Mechanical Engineering or related discipline
  • Chartered Engineer status or actively pursuing chartership through recognized institution (CIBSE or IMechE)
  • Proven experience in public health building services design
  • Strong knowledge of domestic water systems, gas services and drainage design
  • Experience with foul, trade and rainwater drainage systems
  • Knowledge of medical gas systems, fire suppression systems and below-ground drainage advantageous
  • Experience leading multidisciplinary project teams and coordinating external consultants
  • Strong understanding of current legislation, regulations and industry standards
  • Experience using Revit, AutoCAD and BIM design processes
  • Excellent communication, report writing and stakeholder management skills
