Overview

In this role you will join a leading regional law firm’s Private Property & Agricultural team in Taunton, handling high-value rural property and agricultural transactions. You will work closely with Estates, farming families and lenders, supporting complex land and property matters across planning, tenancy and environmental issues. The position offers client-facing responsibility and opportunities to develop technical and business development skills within a growing, sector-focused practice.

Responsibilities

  • Handle a broad range of rural and agricultural property matters, including high-value rural residential properties, listed buildings, and unregistered land
  • Advise on complex farm and agricultural transactions (bare land, working farms, large estates, diversification projects, renewables, nutrient neutrality)
  • Manage full lifecycle of rural property matters (payments, tenancies, rights of way, environmental issues, secured lending)
  • Undertake landlord and tenant work under the Agricultural Holdings Act 1986, Agricultural Tenancies Act 1995 and Landlord and Tenant Act 1954
  • Collaborate with planning, estate planning and litigation colleagues as part of a sector-focused approach
  • Build relationships with long-standing clients (estates, farming families, investors, lenders)
  • Maintain significant client contact and develop client management skills on complex, high-value matters

Key requirements

  • Qualified Solicitor or Legal Executive with 4+ years’ PQE
  • Strong academics and intellectual curiosity
  • Ability to manage own caseload with initiative, drive and organisation
  • Genuine team player with strong communication skills
  • Real interest in agriculture and farming issues
  • Well-developed client management skills and interest in business development
  • Desire to develop technical expertise and client-facing skills within a growing team
