Legal Counsel & Deputy DPO

Overview

In this role you will support the General Counsel with commercial and data protection matters for a national transport and infrastructure business. You will negotiate contracts across private and public sectors and advise on risk spanning transport, retail, infrastructure, advertising and regulatory areas. You will partner with the DPO on data protection issues and ensure policies are fit for purpose, while collaborating with a cross-functional team to keep legal at the forefront of innovation. This is a strategic in-house position in London with a supportive leadership team and a strong ESG agenda.

Responsibilities

• Negotiate and advise on commercial contracts (private and public sector)
• Assess and advise on governance and regulatory risk across multiple business lines
• Support the Data Protection Officer on data protection matters and data processing activities
• Ensure internal policies and procedures are fit for purpose
• Collaborate with stakeholders across the business to embed legal considerations in new initiatives
• Contribute to strategic legal support during the company’s evolution
• Work within a team of six lawyers to provide proactive, cross-functional legal guidance

Key requirements

• E&W or Commonwealth qualified lawyer
• proven in-house experience in commercial and data protection matters
• CIPP/E or equivalent welcomed but not mandatory
• ability to commute to Central London three days per week
