HGV Technician

Location: GillinghamSalary: £40,000 – £45,000paHours: Monday to Friday – Days

KHR Recruitment Specialists are working with a well-established transport and logistics business based in Gillingham, who are looking for an experienced HGV Technician to join their in-house workshop team.

You’ll be responsible for the servicing, repair and maintenance of a fleet of DAF and Mercedes HGVs, ensuring vehicles are safe, compliant and kept to a high standard.

Key responsibilities:

• Carrying out routine servicing and preventative maintenance
• Completing PMI (Preventative Maintenance Inspection) work
• Diagnosing and repairing mechanical faults
• Carrying out mechanical repairs and component replacements
• Electrical fault finding, repairs and diagnostics
• Working on braking, suspension, steering and transmission systems
• Carrying out inspections and identifying potential faults
• Maintaining and repairing vehicle engines and associated components
• Using diagnostic equipment to identify and rectify faults
• Preparing vehicles for MOT and ensuring roadworthiness
• Maintaining accurate maintenance and repair records
• Ensuring all work is completed safely and in line with company procedures

Candidate Profile

• NVQ Level 3 in HGV Maintenance & Servicing/Repair or equivalent
• Previous experience as an HGV Technician or Mechanic
• Strong mechanical and electrical fault-finding skills
• Experience servicing and maintaining HGVs
• Experience carrying out PMI work
• Experience working on DAF and/or Mercedes vehicles would be advantageous
• A proactive approach and strong attention to detail
• The ability to work independently and as part of a team
• A Class 1 or Class 2 HGV licence would be beneficial but is not essential
