Job summary
Are you an experienced Band 5 Occupational Therapist looking for your next challenge? Have you completed core rotations as a Band 5 and are now keen to develop your skills in supervision, leadership and training? This is your opportunity to grow as a practitioner, experiencing the variety of the Band 6 OT rotations across the City and Weston sites of Bristol Foundation Trust.
You will act as an autonomous practitioner, providing Occupational Therapy assessment and treatment, and managing your own patient caseload within a speciality team, with the support and mentoring of senior Occupational Therapists. You will supervise and develop staff which includes Band 5 Physiotherapists, Occupational Therapists, Therapy Technicians and Students as required.
Band 6 staff take some responsibility towards the smooth running of the department as requested and can deputise in the absence of the band 7 for some activities. Staff will be required to cross-cover during periods of absence. As this is a rotational post, the post-holder will work across Bristol Royal Infirmary, Weston General Hospital and South Bristol Community Hospital, depending on where your rotation allocation is located.
The post holder will be required to work shifts including weekends and to participate in the bank holiday rota.
Main duties of the job
- To independently assess, plan and evaluate therapeutic programmes for patients referred for occupational therapy. This may include the use of standardised assessments. Band 7 OTs will be available to support with the most complex cases
- To ensure that all treatment/management plans are regularly reviewed and revised as appropriate, formulating accurate prognoses and developing comprehensive discharge plans.
- Regularly liaise with team members from health, social services and voluntary agencies to ensure an integrated and comprehensive service is provided.
- To take joint responsibility for own clinical supervision by being prepared for each session and acting on feedback on performance
- To maintain and develop up to date knowledge of evidence-based practice in the areas of each rotation, developing specialist knowledge and skills.
- To support evidence-based practice, audit and research activity within the team, service and specialty.
