Overview
As a Senior Mechanical Engineer in Water Utilities, you will lead mechanical infrastructure design for water supply and wastewater projects. You’ll work within a cross‑country MEP team to deliver design concepts, technical assurance, and compliance with UK and international standards. The role offers exposure to prestigious infrastructure settings and potential broader contributions across the MEP discipline. You will shape safe, efficient water systems while collaborating with clients and global colleagues.

Responsibilities
- Contribute to design for a broad client base across projects
- Plan design work and deliverables with the MEP team
- Develop and technically assure designs using relevant software
- Ensure compliance with local and international standards
- Coordinate multi-disciplinary project aspects
- Mentor junior team members in design
- Build and maintain client and stakeholder relationships
Key requirements
- Degree in mechanical engineering or similar
- Chartered Engineer status or equivalent
- Experience in mechanical systems design
- Ability to provide technically sound solutions and act as discipline lead
- Solid understanding of water-based systems (pressurised mains, pumping stations, treatment works)
- Experience with hydraulic modelling of pipe networks (steady state and transient)
- Knowledge of pipe support and stress calculations
- Exposure to lifting equipment, actuated gates, building services (advantage)
- Experience with 3D and BIM design
- Knowledge of UK Water Industry Specifications (WIMES)
- Experience applying CDM2015 to design tasks
- Experience in design and build projects (beneficial)
