Director – Head of Sustainability

Overview

As Director, lead the Manchester office on sustainability strategy, client relationships, and project quality to strengthen the firm’s regional offering. You will mentor senior engineers, introduce new techniques, and drive growth through repeat business. You’ll oversee resource planning, hiring, and QA to ensure delivery excellence for complex built projects. You will shape energy and sustainability strategies and advance low‑carbon solutions at scale. This role combines technical leadership with business development in a globally respected consultancy.

Responsibilities

• QA management within the office

Key requirements

• Strong background in building physics and passive design
• Dynamic thermal modelling experience (IES preferred)
• Part L compliance calculations for non-domestic and domestic buildings
• Understanding of BREEAM and other environmental assessment methods
• Engineering background with knowledge of mechanical building services
• High quality report writing
• Preparation of sustainability and energy strategies
• Feasibility assessment of renewable and low carbon energy solutions
• Strong communication skills internally and externally
• Experience managing and training a team of sustainability engineers
