Overview
In this Management Accountant role, you will strengthen financial decision-making by delivering accurate management accounts and robust balance sheet analysis. You’ll partner with department heads to challenge cost trends and provide insight that informs budgeting and forecasting. A key focus is improving processes and controls, including automation opportunities, to support a fast-paced retail business. You’ll work closely with the Finance team to maintain high-quality reporting and add commercial value.

Responsibilities
- Perform balance sheet reconciliations for designated areas, including complex balances, with supporting analysis and challenge as needed
- Post accruals and prepayments to populate P&L and reporting packs
- Produce departmental reports and analyse with department heads, challenging cost trends
- Assist with the management information pack and narrative to support decision-making
- Support Finance Business Partners with budget prep and reforecasts; explain variances to cost holders
- Develop and maintain process notes, identify control risks, and implement improvements to accuracy and monitoring
- Identify opportunities for automation and build business cases with management
- Coach junior team members and review their work when required
- Contribute to ad hoc reporting, projects, and process improvements
- Be proactive in flagging risks and supporting the wider team
Key requirements
- Proven experience in a management accounting role, ideally in retail, FMCG, or a fast-paced consumer business
- Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret complex data and present clearly
- Confident in constructively challenging figures, processes and stakeholders
- Advanced Excel skills; experience with ERP systems (Dynamics, SAP, Oracle, Netsuite) is advantageous
- Commercially astute with a proactive and collaborative approach
