Overview
In this role you will shape robust construction contracts for major infrastructure projects and navigate complex procurement to set projects up for success. You will work within the Commercial function to align pre‑contract activity with regulatory standards and UU’s governance. You’ll collaborate with Operations, Engineering and Legal to balance risk, value and compliance while driving commercial outcomes. This is a pivotal position at a growth‑oriented utility delivering environmental and societal value in the North West.

Responsibilities
- Lead contract strategy, structure and documentation for major construction programmes
- Oversee end‑to‑end tender processes: scope review, data packs, Q&A, bid evaluation and award recommendations
- Engage internal teams and external partners to influence commercial decisions and ensure best practice
- Manage commercial assurance, risk identification and mitigation; support contract and supplier management; ensure auditability and compliance
Key requirements
- Significant experience developing and managing construction contracts
- Strong working knowledge of NEC4 (highly desirable)
- Experience running tender processes and evaluating complex submissions
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management; ability to influence and collaborate
- Solid understanding of regulated procurement and contract law
- Commercial negotiation skills balancing risk, value and compliance
- Experience with multidisciplinary teams and external partners
- Ability to manage competing priorities in a fast‑moving environment
