As a Principal/Associate in AECOM Water, you lead senior technical work on real-time flood forecasting projects and mentor a growing team. You’ll shape how flood models are developed, calibrated, and applied for EA collaboration and beyond. You’ll tackle hydrology and non-real-time modelling to broaden services and drive impactful, evidence-based decisions. Responsibilities
- Produce and review Flood Forecasting Inception Stage Reports and assess model/data quality
- Develop, calibrate, and validate flood forecasting models (e.g., PDM, Flood Modeller)
- Conduct non-real-time modelling and hydrological analysis using Flood Modeller, ICM, HEC-RAS, MIKE 11, FEH methods
- Create and review high-quality technical reports detailing model builds and uncertainties
- Lead and contribute to tenders for key clients
- Mentor and support team members’ professional development
- Build and maintain strong client and cross-disciplinary relationships
- Stay current with legislation and guidelines relevant to services
- Deliver outputs on time and within budget using project management systems
Key requirements
- Significant experience in flood forecasting modelling (Flood Modeller)
- Strong knowledge of Environment Agency requirements for flood forecasting models
- Proven ability to apply and calibrate hydrological models (e.g., Muskingum-Cunge, PDM)
- Excellent analytical skills with experience analysing hydrometric data
- Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or equivalent
- Strong GIS skills (QGIS, ArcGIS and/or MapInfo)
- Scripting knowledge (Python, Anaconda, Ruby or similar) is advantageous
- Self-motivated with ability to work autonomously in a dynamic deadline-driven environment
