Overview

As Principal Hydraulic Modeller you will lead a technical team within the Water group of our Civil Engineering discipline, guiding project delivery and modelling work. You will address flood risk, wastewater management and catchment strategies to protect communities and water systems. This role combines team leadership with client-facing engagements and cross-disciplinary collaboration. You will shape solutions that support sustainable built environments while advancing your own professional growth. This is a hands-on leadership role with impact across projects and frameworks.

Responsibilities

  • Plan and manage workload of the technical team to deliver outputs across frameworks and projects
  • Provide clear instructions, delegate tasks, and take accountability for delivered work
  • Provide internal project commercial updates and manage project fees and claims
  • Oversee accuracy and quality of modelling work
  • Support operation and maintenance of hydraulic models and provide guidance to others
  • Identify model requirements and manage survey procurement and related processes
  • Act as lead client-facing representative for projects and framework engagements
  • Engage in learning and development opportunities and support team training
  • Support team members’ professional growth and training needs
  • Ensure full Health & Safety compliance and liaise with IT for software stability

Key requirements

  • Degree in relevant scientific or engineering field (or equivalent experience)
  • Chartered CIWEM or ICE with minimum four years post-qualification experience
  • Excellent technical knowledge in building, maintaining and analysing hydraulic models
  • Strong knowledge of drainage and wastewater networks, asset management, and standards
  • Experience leading technical teams with workload planning and quality review
  • Proficiency in relevant modelling software and ability to support others
  • Excellent communication for collaboration with clients, stakeholders, and multi-disciplinary teams
  • Strong organisational skills to manage multiple projects and priorities
  • Knowledge of survey procurement and data management processes
  • Strong understanding of Health and Safety requirements
