Bid Manager

Overview

As Bid Manager at Costain, you will lead multi-disciplinary bid teams to deliver winning proposals for complex services across infrastructure sectors. You’ll shape win strategies, coordinate qualification and capture activities, and ensure timely, high-quality responses aligned with governance standards. Your role drives commercial awareness, risk management, and post-bid handover to operations, contributing to Costain’s goal of delivering sustainable, leading-edge solutions.

Responsibilities

• Leads bid team to achieve a successful submission
• Articulates win strategy to the team to shape the solution and maximise success
• Supports opportunity qualification using lessons learned and competitive analysis
• Plans capture activities, identifies client issues and win themes, and coordinates constraints
• Develops bid budget and monitors expenditure
• Creates bid plans to ensure timely completion of activities and governance
• Manages bid resources to ensure quality contributions from all team members
• Initiates bids with stakeholders via kick-off events and defines roles, responsibilities, and win behavior
• Develops the proposition and ensures alignment with client requirements and win strategy
• Develops client-focused response documents through structured storyboard events
• Works with Programme Lead to identify and manage bid risks, assumptions and dependencies
• Coordinates contract finalisation to enable timely entry into contract
• Manages bid closure and handover to operations with lessons learnt
• Drives continuous improvement by sharing best practices and collateral

Key requirements

• Proven capability in delivering winning consultancy or complex services bids
• Experience in bid campaign management from identification through delivery
• Ability to operate at director level with internal and client stakeholders
• Strong commercial understanding and governance awareness
• Comfort with high responsibility and multi-workstream opportunities
