Overview

As Staff Product Manager for OpenTelemetry Experience, you own the end-to-end journey turning uninstrumented workloads into healthy, actionable telemetry in Grafana Cloud. You define a coherent OpenTelemetry experience across SDK instrumentation, automatic instrumentation, and Collector deployments to reduce setup friction and ensure high-quality telemetry. You partner with cross-functional teams to enable agent-driven instrumentation and drive customer activation. This role blends product leadership with AI-driven insight to shape a first-class OpenTelemetry experience at scale.

Responsibilities

  • Define vision, strategy, and cross-product roadmap for the OpenTelemetry journey
  • Create coherent experiences across SDK instrumentation, automatic instrumentation, and Collector-based deployment
  • Identify and eliminate setup failures, abandonment, misconfiguration, and low-quality telemetry
  • Establish shared experience principles and success criteria across product and engineering teams
  • Prioritize investments using customer research and product data, measuring onboarding and telemetry outcomes
  • Partner with solution teams to provide a seamless transition from telemetry ingestion to product activation
  • Shape product positioning, launches, and adoption programs in collaboration with GTM teams
  • Collaborate with Engineering, Design, Documentation, Developer Relations, and Marketing to deliver a differentiated OpenTelemetry experience
  • Represent Grafana Labs in OpenTelemetry ecosystem discussions

Key requirements

  • 5+ years of Product Management experience in developer tools, observability, infrastructure, or similar B2B domain
  • Experience leading strategy and execution across multiple engineering teams or product areas
  • Strong knowledge of OpenTelemetry (SDK instrumentation, OTLP, Collector pipelines, telemetry context, semantic conventions)
  • Experience building instrumentation systems, agents, telemetry collectors, or related infrastructure
  • Understanding of deploying and operating software across Kubernetes, VMs, and public clouds
  • Ability to translate complex onboarding, configuration, and troubleshooting workflows into clear product experiences
  • History of using customer research and data to guide decisions and outcomes
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills for remote, distributed teams
