Overview

As a Senior Electrical Design Engineer, you will lead electrical design activities for customer-specific power solutions within Caterpillar’s Electric Power Division. You’ll own complex projects across development, changes, manufacturing support and product improvements, delivering high-quality, cost-aware designs. You’ll collaborate with cross-functional teams to meet performance, durability and serviceability goals, with opportunities for international engagement. This role combines technical leadership with hands-on design in a global, world-class engineering environment.

Responsibilities

  • Interpret consultant drawings and specifications
  • Assess commercial and design implications of new projects
  • Prepare submittal documentation and discuss requirements with customers
  • Design controls and protection for generators, motors and related equipment
  • Select components and services; create build of materials
  • Provide technical support to Manufacturing and Sales
  • Direct other engineers in developing and approving project drawings
  • Develop settings for control and protection devices
  • Lead electrical design on projects
  • Maintain project schedules and participate in meetings and reporting
  • Participate in training and career development of new designers
  • Assist with product testing/evaluation as appropriate
  • Represent the department in meetings and update design guides and manuals
  • Stay current with technology developments and standards
  • Contribute to switchboard design (busbar sizing) and new panel design considering temperature rise and ventilation
  • Contribute to procedure and instruction manual development

Key requirements

  • Degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent
  • Proven experience leading electrical design projects from concept to delivery
  • Strong ability to produce and interpret drawings, calculations, risk assessments, and documentation
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD, EPLAN, or similar electrical design software
  • Experience in electrical installation design and related verification/compliance activities (desirable)
  • Analytical thinking, effective communications, and ability to manage multiple priorities (extensive experience)
  • Experience with Creo or similar drawing packages
  • Experience with SAP or similar enterprise software
  • Shall be based in Larne, with five days on-site per week
