Overview

Senior Legal Counsel for the EMEA legal function at CMC Markets, advising on digital assets, corporate transactions, markets, and financial services regulation. You will partner with leadership to balance risk with speed, shape regulatory responses, and support front-office initiatives across trading, product, and strategy. The role spans crypto offerings, wealth management, and cross-border regulatory matters, combining technical legal excellence with commercial judgment. You will lead and develop the EMEA legal team and engage regulators to enable growth and responsible innovation.

Responsibilities

  • Act as deputy to Head of Legal (EMEA) and provide strategic legal guidance to senior management
  • Lead legal support for digital assets including crypto and tokenised products, ensuring regulatory perimeter awareness
  • Offer high-level regulatory advice on MiFID II, FCA Rules, EMIR, and wealth services; facilitate regulator engagement
  • Advise on structuring and disclosures for wealth management products and client journeys with governance and suitability
  • Lead and execute corporate transactions (acquisitions, disposals, JVs, minority investments) and oversee lifecycle
  • Support trading, product, and platform teams on legal structuring of new instruments and liquidity arrangements
  • Oversee risk governance, external counsel usage, and legal spend; contribute to policy development and controls
  • Drive cross-functional alignment between Legal, Compliance, Risk and business units
  • Mentor and develop the EMEA legal team and ensure front-office collaboration
  • Support expansion into new jurisdictions and licensing strategies

Key requirements

  • Qualified lawyer in England & Wales (or equivalent common law jurisdiction)
  • 15+ years post-qualification experience
  • Top-tier international law firm training; significant in-house financial services experience
  • Experience in broker, trading platform or fintech environments
  • Strong commercial instinct and ability to support revenue-generating teams
  • Front-office-facing experience and stakeholder management at board level
