Job Description:

Overview

Senior DevOps Engineer for Project Marty, leading the Phase 1 AWS pipeline and architectural conventions. You will anchor delivery velocity, shape engineering patterns, and progressively hand ownership to the internal team. The role focuses on building a GitOps-driven, declarative provisioning platform on AWS, with a path to multi-cloud expansion and backstage integration. You will collaborate with cross-functional owners to accelerate delivery while mentoring engineers and establishing reusable templates and tooling. This is a chance to influence platform standards that scale across the organization.

Responsibilities

  • Lead end-to-end delivery of the phase 1 AWS pipeline (repo scaffolding, Terraform compute module, Ansible configuration, remote state, validation tooling, provisioning workflow)
  • Own the Terraform and Ansible design, ensuring declarative, reproducible VM state across lifecycle
  • Build GitOps flow on GitHub Actions with OIDC-based authentication and least-privilege IAM
  • Implement full lifecycle management: TTL expiry, decommissioning, PR-driven resize, snapshot/restore
  • Expose the pipeline as a Backstage Software Template and create JSON schema/documentation for Backstage dependencies
  • Mentor and upskill the internal DevOps engineer; conduct structured knowledge transfer
  • Coordinate with external dependency owners (Networking, AD/Identity, Security, Operations) to unblock delivery

Key requirements

  • Terraform and Ansible expertise with clear handoff between infrastructure provisioning and machine configuration
  • Proven track record building end-to-end provisioning and lifecycle pipelines
  • Hands-on cloud engineering across compute, storage, IAM/identity and networking (AWS preferred)
  • CI/CD as pipeline-as-code using GitHub Actions and OIDC federation
  • GitOps / PR-driven workflows as default practice
  • Deep Windows Server and Active Directory experience
  • Python for validation and tooling
  • Strong English communication and distributed teamwork
  • Mentoring engineers and transferring ownership
