Project Manager

Overview

In this role you will manage the end-to-end delivery of defence engineering and R&D projects, from concept to customer acceptance, within a multidisciplinary team. You will work on small to medium programmes that span design, build and test, contributing to bids and proposals. The position offers hybrid working and a chance to influence cutting-edge defence technology. You will collaborate cross-functionally to ensure on-time, on-budget delivery and customer satisfaction.

Responsibilities

• Manage full lifecycle delivery of engineering and R&D projects from concept to final acceptance
• Lead multidisciplinary project teams to deliver safely, on time, within budget, and to customer expectations
• Develop and maintain project plans, schedules, WBS, and milestones
• Manage risks, opportunities, dependencies, and change control processes
• Collaborate with engineering teams, suppliers, customers, and stakeholders
• Support bidding and business development through planning, cost estimation, and risk management
• Manage contractual deliverables and ensure customer compliance
• Provide regular reports to senior leadership and stakeholders
• Coordinate subcontractors and external partners
• Drive continuous improvement and best practice in project delivery

Key requirements

• Proven experience delivering engineering, technical or R&D-focused projects
• Background in Defence, Aerospace, Maritime or highly regulated technical environments
• Experience designing, developing and building products or systems
• Strong understanding of project management methodologies and lifecycle
• Experience supporting bids, tenders, proposals and contract delivery
• Commercial awareness and understanding of contractual obligations and governance
• Excellent stakeholder management and communication skills
• Ability to lead project teams in a collaborative, team-focused manner
• Track record of delivering small to medium-sized programmes
