Overview
As a Mechanical Engineer, you will provide specialist expertise across bogie and wheelset projects, guiding design through testing, maintenance and failure investigation. You will collaborate with internal teams, customers and suppliers to deliver high-quality engineering solutions and support project delivery and continuous improvement. This role offers hands-on impact across design, production and project execution, shaping reliability and performance in rail systems. You will work in a technical, cross-functional environment with clear accountability and opportunities to influence outcomes.
Responsibilities
- Provide mechanical engineering expertise across multiple projects and activities
- Create, review and approve technical documentation and drawings (calculations, specifications, reports, EBoMs, ECOs, maintenance manuals, bulletins, instructions, data sheets)
- Ensure tasks are completed within agreed timescales
- Support tendering with engineering input
- Coordinate progress with customers and suppliers on technical matters
- Develop and maintain project plans and track deliverables
- Coordinate external engineering resources to manage workload peaks
- Maintain engineering resource forecasts
- Apply business processes, standards and engineering procedures
- Undertake other duties aligned with skills and experience
Key requirements
- Degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent
- Minimum 5 years in a mechanical engineering discipline
- Experience in bogies, wheelsets or rail engineering desirable
- Experience managing engineering projects and deliverables
- Proven experience in specification, design, testing, maintenance and failure investigation of mechanical systems
- Experience using Mechanical CAD systems
- Experience in a production or shop-floor environment
- Positive, self-motivated and proactive
- Strong ownership and commitment to high-quality delivery
