Senior Design Manager – Water

Overview

In this Senior Design Manager role, you lead multidisciplinary design teams to shape and govern major AMP8 water and wastewater programmes. You will drive optioneering to detailed design, manage design risk and interfaces, and collaborate with clients, contractors and partners to deliver clear, buildable solutions. You challenge traditional delivery approaches to create smarter, sustainable designs and mentor other design leaders to strengthen the team. This is about influencing delivery, shaping the design management capability, and delivering high-quality outcomes for water projects.

Responsibilities

• Lead multidisciplinary design teams on AMP8 water and wastewater programmes
• Guide design teams from optioneering and outline to detailed design and construction support
• Manage design risk, interfaces, assumptions, decisions, reviews and assurance activities
• Collaborate with clients, contractors, framework partners and supply chain specialists
• Challenge traditional delivery approaches to identify smarter, simpler, sustainable solutions
• Support work winning, framework growth, client engagement and early project shaping
• Mentor Design Managers, coordinators and discipline leads to strengthen the team and grow the work bank

Key requirements

• Led multidisciplinary design teams in water, infrastructure, utilities, construction or major capital programmes
• Experience in managing interfaces between disciplines, clients, contractors and delivery partners
• Ability to balance technical quality, commercial awareness, programme pressure and buildability
• Confident in design governance, risk management, change control, design reviews and assurance
• Clear communicator with senior clients, technical specialists and project teams
• Cares about developing people and building resilient teams
• Stays calm under pressure and translates uncertainty into practical plans
• Chartered or Incorporated status welcome; possible equivalent leadership and design governance capability
