Overview

In this senior role you lead avionics and electrical systems work across aircraft modification projects, from concept to certification. You partner with customers, suppliers and airworthiness teams to deliver robust solutions that meet regulatory requirements. The position focuses on technical leadership, system integration, and ensuring successful installation, testing and certification of complex aircraft electrical systems. You will influence engineering strategies and mentor engineers while supporting bids and continuous improvement. This is a hands-on role at the heart of growing aerospace programmes with a focus on airworthiness and compliance.

Responsibilities

  • Provide technical leadership for avionics and electrical systems engineering activities
  • Develop and review engineering packages for aircraft modifications and installations
  • Design and review schematics, wiring diagrams, electrical architecture and installation drawings
  • Perform Electrical Load Analysis and assess aircraft electrical systems
  • Prepare engineering reports, certification documentation, test schedules and technical submissions
  • Support modification, installation and integration activities through to completion
  • Review OEM Service Bulletins, vendor data, and STC documentation
  • Support installation, ground and flight testing and EMC activities
  • Collaborate with customers, suppliers, planning teams and multidisciplinary engineers
  • Support airworthiness and certification within a Part 21J Design Organisation
  • Provide technical guidance and mentoring to engineers
  • Identify risks and develop effective solutions
  • Support technical bids, proposals and business development as needed
  • Contribute to process, quality and governance improvements
  • Travel to customer sites and aircraft locations as required

Key requirements

  • Significant experience with aircraft avionics and electrical systems
  • Experience in a Part 21J Design Organisation or similar regulated environment
  • Strong understanding of airworthiness and certification processes
  • Experience producing and reviewing wiring diagrams, schematics and installation drawings
  • Experience with Electrical Load Analysis and aircraft electrical architecture
  • Experience supporting installation, integration and testing
  • Knowledge of certification and compliance activities
  • Ability to interpret technical documentation (AMMs, IPCs, CMMs, wiring manuals, OEM docs)
  • Strong technical report writing and presentation skills
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management
