Software Engineer II

Overview

As a member of the Digital Payments Engineering team, you will shape mobile payment experiences for tens of millions of cardholders. You’ll craft secure, scalable payment apps and interact with product managers to define direction while exploring emerging technologies. The role blends architecture, cryptography, and hands-on development in a fast-paced, Agile environment within a Fortune 100 company. You contribute to secure, user-friendly payment solutions that drive revenue and operational savings, collaborating across internal teams and partner ecosystems.

Responsibilities

• Architect, design, and implement EMV/AEIPS Payment Applications on JavaCard or Host Card Emulation environments
• Coordinate with external labs to certify payment products
• Drive product innovation within the Mobile Payment domain
• Contribute as an agile team member in story analysis, software development, testing, and automation tooling
• Leverage modern technologies to build layered, service-oriented architectures over existing Amex systems
• Maintain a positive, collaborative mindset in a fast-moving environment
• Foster cross-team collaboration across internal groups

Key requirements

• Bachelor in Computer Science/Engineering or 5+ years of equivalent experience
• Hands-on development in JavaCard/HCE domain
• Experience with cryptographic algorithms (3DES, AES, RSA, ECC)
• Deep knowledge of GlobalPlatform card content and key management
• Understanding of EMV Common Personalization Specification
• Nice-to-have Android and iOS exposure related to payments
• Strong collaboration skills and stakeholder management
• Experience in agile development environments and multi-threaded programming
