Overview

In this role you will lead power network design and modelling for Critical National Infrastructure clients in the UK and Ireland. You will oversee technical teams and act as a trusted adviser to client leadership, shaping network planning, flexibility, and generation integration strategies. You’ll work on modelling and analysis across several tools to support major EHV/HV connections, protection interfaces, and ANM implementations. The opportunity offers scope to influence large-scale power networks and AI-enabled optimisation.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and manage networks design and modelling teams (up to 10 staff) for DNO/TSO clients
  • Conduct network modelling and design using DigSILENT PowerFactory, IPSA, DINIS, PSS-SINCAL and related tools
  • Perform load flow, thermal, voltage, and fault level analyses
  • Prepare G99-compliant offer letters for EHV/HV connections on behalf of DNOs/TSOs
  • Design and configure Active Network Management schemes on platforms such as SGS and ZIV
  • Carry out curtailment analysis for ANM schemes
  • Develop AI/ML oriented software solutions to automate power system analyses
  • Architect technical and financial models for generation clients to optimise revenue
  • Design forecasts for load and generation for DNOs/TSOs and BESS operators
  • Develop whole-system flexibility management solutions for distribution networks
  • Engage with client-side departments to act as a trusted advisor on planning, modelling and capital projects
  • Support protection design for 33 kV and above infrastructure and design battery storage and data centre electricals

Key requirements

  • Masters/PhD or Bachelors in Power Systems engineering or equivalent
  • Experience with load flow, thermal and voltage constraint analysis and fault level assessment for DNOs/TSOs and large generation projects
  • Specialised experience with UK/Ireland power distribution or transmission networks at 132 kV and above
  • Proficiency with DigSilent PowerFactory, PSS-E, PSS-SINCAL, IPSA
  • Experience creating automation and AI solutions using Python or DigSilent scripting
  • Understanding of substation design and protection principles (33 kV and above)
  • Working knowledge of DigSilent PowerFactory and Python coding (weighted)
