Design Engineer

Overview

In this role you contribute to the design of temporary and permanent works for large-scale infrastructure projects, working within an established in-house design team in Watford. You will produce calculations, checks, and drawings, collaborate with clients and site teams, and support continuous improvement of processes. The position offers hybrid working after induction and valuable development within a reputable contractor environment.

Responsibilities

• Produce design calculations, reports, and technical drawings for temporary and permanent works
• Undertake design checks and contribute to risk assessments
• Liaise with clients, project managers, and construction teams to ensure efficient design delivery
• Collaborate with senior engineers to develop safe and innovative engineering solutions
• Support coordination of multiple workstreams and ensure quality control across projects
• Review designs in practice and resolve engineering queries
• Contribute to continuous improvement of engineering processes and documentation

Key requirements

• Degree in Civil or Structural Engineering
• A few years post-graduate experience in design engineering
• Experience producing design calculations, design checks, and risk assessments
• Strong communication and client-facing skills
• Ability to commute to Watford
