Overview

In this role you will join a small team of process engineers to deliver design work within a regulated nuclear environment. You will collaborate with multi-discipline teams to assess effluent handling, sampling systems, and safety cases, ensuring alignment with existing safety documentation. You will contribute to project milestones, present designs at reviews, and support a culture of safety, innovation, and regulatory compliance. This is a hybrid position based in Warrington/Cumbria with clear opportunities to influence safety and process performance across medium/large-scale projects.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with a small team to deliver process design work to project schedules
  • Regularly report progress to Project Management and Engineering Manager
  • Coordinate with multi-discipline teams including non-engineering functions
  • Gather information on existing effluent routes and safe discharge limits
  • Assess flushing systems for new container types and identify required modifications
  • Develop sampling systems for bulk pond conditions and location of releases
  • Create radiological, environmental and non-nuclear safety cases for relevant hazards
  • Present designs at assurance reviews with clients and technical committees
  • Ensure designs fit within existing safety cases and identify any gaps

Key requirements

  • Teamwork with process engineers and other disciplines
  • Good communication skills
  • Competent report writing
  • Comfort with time and cost constraints
  • Design/assessment of fluidic systems for radioactive liquors and effluent streams
  • Understanding of sampling for hazardous liquids and safety assessment techniques (e.g., HAZOP)
  • Production and checking of Basis of Design, Process Descriptions, Process Calculations, Process Data Sheets, Basis of Process Safety
  • Strong communication
