Lead Data Scientist – KYC/Onboarding

Overview

In this role you drive data science initiatives for Wise’s KYC and onboarding domain, shaping how we leverage ML to mitigate risk while maintaining a smooth customer experience. You will own the ML lifecycle, from training to deployment, and collaborate with cross-functional teams to deliver measurable impact. You’ll work on document verification models and large datasets, keeping the system state-of-the-art and production-ready. This is a chance to influence risk-aware onboarding at a global scale and mentor colleagues in a fast-paced, inclusive environment.

Responsibilities

• Plan and ideate data science projects with cross-functional partners
• Apply ML/data science techniques to identify opportunities in KYC/onboarding
• Articulate value, limitations, and impact of data science initiatives to diverse stakeholders
• Manage and create large image and tabular datasets for KYC processes
• Iterate on deep learning image models
• Measure and optimize model performance
• Maintain and develop a large Python codebase with best practices
• Stay updated with ML research and productionize ideas for customer benefit
• Research document verification to reduce criminal activity
• Mentor junior team members and promote data science skill growth

Key requirements
