Overview

In this 2nd line role, you will oversee Capital on Tap’s financial crime controls and risk framework from the London office, supporting the MLRO and challenging 1st line activities. You’ll design and monitor compliance testing, escalate issues, and provide governance reporting to senior leadership. You’ll drive risk assessment and regulatory change translation into practical action for the business, contributing to a growing fintech platform that serves small businesses. This position offers impact across policy, monitoring, and governance, with a clear path to shape the firm’s financial crime posture.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee and challenge 1st line controls, handling escalations that affect reporting or offboarding decisions
  • Support the MLRO in running the compliance monitoring programme, including thematic reviews and control tests
  • Maintain AML/CTF policies and risk appetite standards; update in response to regulatory changes and audit findings
  • Assist with the EWRA (Enterprise Wide Risk Assessment) to identify emerging risk and propose controls
  • Lead 2LoD review of new products/change initiatives, providing risk assessment before go-live
  • Produce management information and compliance reporting for senior leadership and governance
  • Support horizon scanning and translate regulatory changes into practical impact assessments for the business

Key requirements

  • 3+ years in a 2nd line financial crime/AML compliance function within a regulated UK financial services firm (Business customers preferred)
  • Experience designing or running a compliance monitoring or control testing programme
  • Strong knowledge of UK Money Laundering Regulations 2017, JMLSG guidance, and POCA
  • Experience contributing to or owning a financial crime risk assessment at business/product level
  • Ability to present findings to senior stakeholders and governance forums
  • Strong written communication and analytical skills; ability to challenge the business constructively
