Overview

In this Area Project Manager role you will lead a team delivering a portfolio of capital and lifecycle projects across a Defence estate. You will shape programmes from inception through delivery, ensuring safety, quality and value while coordinating with stakeholders and partners. The position combines strategic leadership with hands-on project delivery, offering significant responsibility and direct impact on critical military infrastructure. You’ll work with cross-functional teams to drive continuous improvement and future investment. This is a senior, influence-heavy role with a clear mission to modernise and sustain defence assets.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and develop a team of Project Managers with coaching and performance support
  • Oversee delivery of multiple construction, refurbishment and infrastructure projects
  • Manage programmes, budgets and commercial performance across the area
  • Build relationships with stakeholders, customers and delivery partners
  • Ensure compliance with health and safety legislation, CDM, and industry standards
  • Identify and manage project risks, opportunities and dependencies
  • Drive quality, efficiency and customer satisfaction in delivery
  • Support sustainability objectives and reduce environmental impact
  • Monitor supply chain performance and secure value for money

Key requirements

  • Proven experience leading multiple projects or programmes
  • Experience managing and developing project delivery teams
  • Strong commercial and financial management skills
  • Excellent stakeholder engagement and communication abilities
  • HNC (or equivalent) in Building, Civil, Mechanical or Electrical Engineering, Construction or a related discipline
  • Project Management qualification (PRINCE2, APM or equivalent)
  • IOSH qualification or equivalent health and safety certification
  • Full UK Driving Licence
