Overview

In this role, you will lead sourcing strategies for major spend areas within the UK Direct Procurement team, driving value and improving operating margin. You will collaborate with cross-functional colleagues across Project, Bid, Commercial, Pricing and Finance to secure optimal subconsultancy supply chains. The role combines strategic category management with governance, risk awareness and sustainable procurement practices to support financial targets. You will engage senior stakeholders and shape commercial outcomes in a global, growth-focused firm.

Responsibilities

  • Lead design, development and delivery of category strategies for key spend areas
  • Manage a robust pipeline of procurement activities aligned with priorities
  • Develop strategic category management plans and ensure alignment with Procurement Act 2023 and ISO 20400
  • Monitor market trends and regulatory changes to inform sourcing strategies
  • Build and manage stakeholder relationships to ensure early procurement involvement
  • Promote sustainable and responsible supply-chain practices across procurement lifecycle
  • Forecast savings against budget and track auditable benefits
  • Lead contract and performance management for strategic suppliers and define meaningful KPIs

Key requirements

  • MCIPS membership or equivalent degree/qualification is highly desirable
  • Direct procurement experience in engineering or professional services is highly desirable
  • Substantial procurement experience with proven value delivery through category management
  • Experience supporting bid submissions requiring subconsultant or specialist supply chains
  • Collaborative leadership style with accountability and curiosity
  • Strong negotiation, influencing and stakeholder-management skills
  • Evidence-based decision making and structured problem-solving
  • Track record of driving commercial, operational and sustainable value from the supply chain
  • Ability to engage with and influence senior stakeholders across functions
  • Capacity to develop innovative solutions to complex business challenges
  • Commercial acumen to identify and deliver optimisation opportunities
