Overview
In this role you will join a busy UK-based legal team supporting AXA XL’s UK & Lloyd’s business. You will provide general legal and regulatory guidance across delegated underwriting, distribution, claims and governance, collaborating with global colleagues. You will draft and negotiate insurance and commercial agreements, develop expertise in innovative distribution models, and help translate regulatory developments into actionable guidance. This is a hands-on role that combines legal analysis, cross-functional collaboration and the use of legal tech to improve service delivery. You will contribute to shaping governance, conduct matters and product oversight in a dynamic, inclusive culture.

Responsibilities
- Partner with underwriters and teams across delegated authority, distribution, claims, wordings, compliance, conduct and operations to deliver practical legal advice
- Advise on delegated underwriting and claims arrangements, distribution models and related regulatory requirements across Company and Lloyd’s markets
- Draft, review and negotiate commercial and insurance agreements (binding authorities, claims admin agreements, broker agreements, TOBAs, service agreements, NDAs, endorsements)
- Develop specialist legal expertise in facilities, algorithmic underwriting and other innovative distribution models, supporting on complex structures and regulatory risk
- Support product governance and conduct matters (Consumer Duty, Product Oversight and fair value)
- Support outsourcing and service company arrangements
- Lead and contribute to cross-functional projects, legal templates, training and continuous improvement
- Use AI and other legal technologies responsibly to improve efficiency and delivery of legal services
- Represent Legal on internal committees
- Collaborate with UK and international colleagues to gain broad business exposure
- Monitor legal and market developments and translate changes into pragmatic guidance and opportunities for the business
- Report to Head of Legal – Delegated and Distribution (UK & Lloyd’s)
Key requirements
- UK legal qualifications essential – Law degree and qualified Solicitor or similar
- Proven post-qualification legal work experience in a relevant field, insurance focus preferable
- Excellent written and collaborative communication
