Overview
In this role you lead the Accounts Receivable function within a large public-sector organisation, driving income collection across a diverse portfolio. You will manage the AR team, shape billing, collection and recovery processes, and report on performance to improve service delivery. You’ll partner with internal teams, auditors, and external contractors to optimise outcomes and support system enhancements. This position offers the chance to influence revenue integrity and process efficiency at scale.
Responsibilities
- Lead the Accounts Receivable team and ensure robust processes
- Oversee billing, collection, recovery and enforcement across all income types
- Monitor collection performance, produce KPI reports and forecasts
- Advise on collection performance and service improvement
- Manage complex debt recovery cases and support legal action when required
- Oversee refunds, write-offs and reconciliations in financial systems
- Build relationships with internal stakeholders, auditors, and external contractors
- Support system testing and identify opportunities to improve financial/operational systems
- Identify and implement process and service improvements to drive performance and efficiency
- Support staff development, succession planning, training and communication
- Keep abreast of legislation, software and system developments affecting income collection and debt recovery
Key requirements
- Degree-level education or equivalent
- Fully or part-qualified in CICM, IRRV, AAT, CIPFA or ACCA, or qualified by experience
- Strong knowledge of billing and recovery legislation and best practice
- Extensive experience in income collection/recovery at a senior level
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills across stakeholder levels
- Good IT skills with experience of financial systems
