Overview
In this role you lead a specialist team responsible for operational risk, governance and support across Lifeboat Operations, shaping policy and standards. You will oversee risk management processes to keep RNLI operations safe, compliant and effective, while driving assurance activities and continuous improvement. You will work with regional teams and subject matter experts to influence decisions and embed organisational learning. This is a mission-driven opportunity to enable lifesaving services by strengthening governance and operational readiness.

Responsibilities
- Provide leadership for a specialist team covering operational risk, governance and support services across Lifeboat Operations
- Shape policy and operational standards in collaboration with regional teams and SMEs
- Oversee risk management processes ensuring regulatory and industry compliance
- Act as adviser on assurance activities, investigations, lessons learned and organisational improvement initiatives
- Lead cross-functional efforts to support safe, effective lifeboat operations and continuous improvement
Key requirements
- Significant experience as an operational leader with ability to balance strategy and delivery
- Proven track record across complex stakeholder groups, influencing decisions and managing risk
- Experience in governance frameworks, organisational improvement initiatives and data-informed decision making
- Background in maritime, emergency response, search and rescue, defence, coastguard, fire and rescue, aviation or other safety-critical regulated environments
