Senior Operations Manager

Overview

In this role, you will lead vendor and optimisation programmes within HSBC’s Chief Technology Office, driving cost reduction, simplification, and delivery of strategic tech objectives. You will partner with CTO, COO, Procurement, Finance, Architecture, and Risk to shape initiatives like vendor rationalisation and open-source migrations. You own business case development, execution oversight, and executive communications to ensure sponsor decisions and clear governance. Responsibilities

• Develop business cases to support strategic objectives across the vendor landscape and infrastructure optimisation
• Define long-term objectives and execute strategies for major vendors and simplification initiatives
• Lead optimisation planning aligned to CTO strategy, Architecture direction, and financial plans
• Review commercial constructs and contractual levers to unlock savings and reduce complexity
• Ensure financial models and recharge approaches are understood and align with the business case
• Provide high-level oversight of third-party spend governance, coordinating with Supplier Management for timely submissions

Key requirements

• Proven experience driving vendor performance and commercial optimisation across contract models (T&M, managed services, hardware, software)
• Strong stakeholder management and influencing skills across Technology, Procurement, Finance, Risk and Operations
• Ability to communicate complex topics clearly to all levels, including senior leadership
• Track record in technology vendor and/or operations management in financial services or large multinational environment
• Strong commercial and financial acumen (accounting fundamentals) with experience shaping contracts to meet business and risk requirements
• Highly analytical and outcome-focused with data-driven decision-making
• Demonstrated ability to manage operational risk and deliver under pressure in fast-changing environments
