Overview

In this role, you lead and shape scour risk management across multiple UK projects, guiding a dedicated scour team within Amey’s Flooding and Water Management group in Scotland. You’ll develop concept designs, oversee feasibility studies and design work, and ensure HSE/CDM compliance while delivering value-driven solutions for clients such as Transport Scotland and NI Departments. The position offers leadership development and close collaboration with clients to drive resilient, sustainable infrastructure.

Responsibilities

  • Develop concept design solutions aligned with project briefs
  • Lead and perform scour-related design, feasibility studies and assessments
  • Deliver value-for-money, innovative technical solutions
  • Progress projects from preliminary to detailed design with client focus
  • Mentor and develop team members from senior engineers to technicians
  • Assist with contract planning, programming, and project administration
  • Support bids and delivery of services on other contracts
  • Ensure IMS/CDM and governance compliance and prepare technical documents
  • Complete performance appraisals and provide development opportunities

Key requirements

  • High-level experience in the relevant technical field, likely in a Senior Engineer role or equivalent
  • Proven ability to produce or oversee technically sound engineering solutions meeting standards and client needs
  • Extensive experience in Scour Risk Management
  • Experience managing health, safety and welfare tasks in projects (CDM Regulations)
  • Experience applying technical governance in a consulting engineering environment
  • Bachelor or Master degree in an appropriate subject
  • Chartered status with an appropriate professional body
  • Accredited training manager in a relevant professional institution (e.g., Supervising Civil Engineer)
  • Ability to act as lead or main day-to-day project contact when required
