Overview

In this role you will provide expert pharmacy services within the Mental Health Urgent Treatment Centre and Place of Safety, supporting MDTs and leading medicines optimisation to improve patient outcomes. You will contribute to trust-wide quality improvement and specialist pharmacy services, shaping prescribing practice and data-informed service development. You will lead training, supervision, and on-going innovation to extend the profession. This is a chance to impact care across inpatient and community interfaces within a leading mental health Trust.

Responsibilities

  • Provide expert pharmacy service to MHUTC and POS with a patient-focused approach
  • Coordinate quality pharmacy service for multidisciplinary ward rounds
  • Ensure safe and effective medicines use in allocated wards and teams
  • Collaborate with MDTs to optimise medicines use
  • Liaise with primary care, acute trusts, CMHTs, HTTs and wards
  • Deliver medicines optimisation programmes on wards and teams
  • Conduct medicines-related research, QA projects, and audits
  • Prescribe within scope and as an independent prescriber if qualified
  • Present information clearly to varied audiences; manage communication barriers
  • Deliver medicines-related training to clinical staff; provide clinical supervision
  • Support implementation of Medicines Management Policies and ensure safe handling of medicines
  • Record and analyse data on patient and service outcomes for committees
  • Demonstrate innovation and contribute to quality improvement initiatives
  • Participate in on-call, weekend, and bank holiday services

Key requirements

  • MPharm or equivalent
  • GPhC registration with CPD
  • Postgraduate certificate/diploma in mental health or pharmacy practice or equivalent
  • Essential: experience in patient-facing pharmacist and clinical mental health roles
  • Urgent treatment care service experience
  • NHS hospital pharmacy experience
  • Desirable: GP practice or primary care network experience
  • Desirable: management or supervisory experience
  • Excellent written and verbal communication
  • Strong time management and prioritisation
  • Leadership skills
  • Ability to collect and analyse outcome data for service evaluation
  • Experience with complex drug interactions and high-dose antipsychotics
  • Independent prescribing (GPhC)
