Overview

In this role you will own the commercial performance of a major project, leading risk, procurement, contract management and financial reporting. You’ll guide the commercial team and work across design, construction and planning to optimise value and protect the contractor’s position. You’ll engage with clients, suppliers and stakeholders to shape strategy, procurement, and delivery. This is an opportunity to influence pre-construction through delivery and deliver a lasting social legacy through healthcare infrastructure.

Responsibilities

  • Provide commercial leadership across the project and support strategic decisions
  • Manage the project’s commercial risk and opportunities
  • Lead client, supply-chain and stakeholder commercial relationships
  • Support procurement strategy, subcontractor appointments and supply-chain management
  • Lead contract administration and protect the company’s contractual and financial position
  • Collaborate with design, construction, planning and procurement teams on buildability and value engineering
  • Manage cost forecasting, reporting and overall commercial performance
  • Prepare and review monthly CVRs and related reports
  • Manage target costs and address programme-related commercial issues
  • Lead, support and develop the wider commercial team

Key requirements

  • Strong experience delivering major construction projects
  • Experience in healthcare, education or other large, technically complex building projects
  • Solid main-contractor background and understanding of full project lifecycle
  • Excellent knowledge of procurement, contract management, cost control, forecasting and commercial reporting
  • Strong understanding of commercial risk and opportunity management
  • Experience managing and developing Quantity Surveyors and wider commercial teams
  • Ability to work closely with clients, consultants, designers, supply-chain partners and senior leadership
  • Ability to contribute commercially to the overall project strategy
  • BSc/MSc in Quantity Surveying or equivalent (minimum clearly required) and professional membership (RICS, ICES or CIOB) or progression towards
  • CSCS card essential
