Principal Engineer – Civils and Structures

Overview

In this role you will lead civil and structural design for complex rail infrastructure, shaping major projects across London and Bristol. You will provide technical direction within multidisciplinary teams and ensure quality across design deliverables. The role offers exposure to high-profile rail schemes while contributing to housing, local authority, education, and development sectors. You will influence project delivery, risk management, and design assurance, working to deliver sustainable infrastructure with impact.

Responsibilities

• Lead delivery of civil and structural design projects
• Provide technical leadership across multidisciplinary teams
• Oversee interdisciplinary design reviews and verification
• Manage production and QA of engineering analyses and deliverables
• Coordinate survey requirements and integration into projects
• Identify and manage design risks throughout lifecycle
• Support Project Directors and Managers in successful delivery

Key requirements

• Chartered Engineer status with ICE or IStructE
• Master’s degree in Civil Engineering or related discipline
• Significant civil/structural design experience on infrastructure projects
• Experience leading delivery of complex engineering projects
• Strong experience with industry-standard analysis and design software
• Experience managing design risks and undertaking design assurance activities
• Rail sector experience advantageous
• CRE experience or willingness to pursue CRE competency
