Senior Principal Geotechnical Engineer needed to lead high‑quality geotechnical solutions for major UK and international infrastructure projects. You will provide technical leadership within multidisciplinary teams and oversee delivery while mentoring junior engineers. Responsibilities
- Lead geotechnical assignments across the UK, Ireland, and internationally
- Perform design and analysis across all project stages from concept to detailed design
- Review internal and third‑party designs for technical excellence and standards compliance
- Identify value engineering opportunities and develop innovative, cost‑effective designs
- Carry out finite element modelling and interpret results for design support
- Prepare technical reports, calculations, specifications, drawings, and project documents
- Conduct site inspections, ground investigations, and construction supervision in collaboration with contractors and design teams
- Manage project programmes, resources, budgets, and staff utilisation to ensure delivery
Key requirements
- Chartered Civil Engineer with extensive geotechnical design experience
- Postgraduate qualification in geotechnical or related discipline (preferred)
- Extensive knowledge of Eurocodes and UK/international design standards, contracts, methodologies
- Strong understanding of geotechnical principles, data interpretation, and advanced numerical modelling
- Experience in design/analysis of piled foundations, excavations, retaining systems, earthworks, soil/rock slope engineering, seismic analysis
- Experience with ground investigation specification, tender documentation, and data interpretation
- Experience leading projects, managing commercial performance, programme delivery, and budgeting
- Strong stakeholder management and client relationship skills
