Overview

In this role you will provide commercial support to project teams, ensuring cost control, forecasting, and contractual compliance throughout the project lifecycle. You will manage subcontract procurement, negotiate contracts, and prepare payment applications while maintaining strong client and supply-chain relationships. You’ll identify commercial opportunities and mitigate risks to protect the business, supporting continuous improvement in commercial processes. You will work with senior commercial and project teams, balancing independent work with collaboration to deliver profitable projects.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain accurate cost, value, and cash flow reporting at project and business unit levels
  • Manage subcontract procurement, negotiation, and financial accounting
  • Ensure compliance with contractual terms, commercial governance, and company procedures
  • Prepare and submit applications for payment, variations, claims, and additional payments
  • Collaborate with site teams to forecast expenditure and cash recovery
  • Support continuous improvement of commercial processes and share best practices
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with clients, subcontractors, and internal teams
  • Identify and realise commercial opportunities while mitigating risks

Key requirements

  • Experience in construction, preferably civil engineering or water sector
  • Strong knowledge of ICE/NEC forms of contract and Construction Law
  • Commercial management and subcontract procurement experience
  • Proficient in cost management, forecasting, and earned value analysis
  • Excellent communication and negotiation skills
  • Strong numeric and computer literacy, proficient inMicrosoft Office
  • Organisational skills with the ability to meet tight deadlines
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Experience in estimation and cost analysis
  • Ability to chair meetings and manage control cycles effectively
