Blaymires Recruitment is representing an established building contractor near Lymington, Hampshire, seeking an Assistant Quantity Surveyor to join the business.
The company has built a strong reputation across Hampshire and Dorset, delivering bespoke new homes, high-end refurbishments and selected commercial developments. Its architect-led projects combine exceptional craftsmanship with a focus on quality, precision and client relationships.
This opportunity would suit an Assistant Quantity Surveyor looking to develop their commercial skills and gain experience across high-quality construction projects. You will support the commercial team from pre-construction through to final account, working closely with project managers, site teams and subcontractors.
The Role
You will:
·Assist with the commercial and financial management of multiple construction projects.
·Support subcontractor procurement, including preparing tender enquiries, comparing quotations and assisting with appointments.
·Assist with materials procurement and monitor costs against budget allowances.
·Help prepare client valuations, assess variations and compile final accounts.
·Assist with cost value reconciliations and regular financial reporting.
·Maintain accurate records of project costs, payments and contractual correspondence.
·Support cost planning and value engineering alongside the estimator and design team.
·Attend project meetings and work with site teams to monitor progress and commercial matters.
Experience and Requirements
You will have:
·Between one and three years’ experience in quantity surveying within the construction industry.
·Ideally, experience working for a building contractor on residential, refurbishment or commercial projects.
·A basic understanding of procurement, valuations, variations and cost control.
·Some knowledge of JCT contracts and a willingness to develop your contract administration skills.
·Strong numerical skills and attention to detail.
·Good Excel and Microsoft Office skills.
·Clear communication skills and the ability to work effectively within a team.
·A proactive, organised approach and a desire to develop your career.
·A full UK driving licence.
Experience in bespoke or high-end residential construction would be advantageous.
