Overview
In this Monitoring Surveyor role, you contribute to independent development monitoring and due diligence for data centre and digital infrastructure projects. You will work with lender and investor clients across the UK, Europe and beyond, identifying risks and informing funding decisions. The position combines technical delivery with client-facing advisory, reporting, and site-based inspections. You’ll join a growing data centre monitoring team and benefit from specialised training and mentorship to advance in the service line.
Responsibilities
- Deliver development monitoring and technical due diligence instructions for data centre and related projects across the UK, Europe, and international markets
- Review project information (budgets, cost plans, programmes, procurement, contracts) with a focus on data centre delivery requirements
- Identify and communicate key risks related to cost, programme, planning, utilities, procurement, and funding conditions
- Assess data centre-specific risks (power, cooling, redundancy, MEP coordination, commissioning, handover) and prepare risk summaries and monitoring reports
- Attend site inspections and monitor progress against programme, budget, specifications, and funding conditions
- Review drawdown requests, cost reports, cash flow, contingencies, and changes; provide funding release recommendations
- Coordinate inputs from internal specialists (cost, MEP, sustainability, planning, environmental) for integrated funder-focused reporting
- Develop relationships with lender/investor stakeholders and present clear, commercially-focused advice to support funding decisions
- Contribute to proposals, capability statements, and market intelligence to support business development
- Mentor junior colleagues and contribute to continuous improvement of reporting templates and processes
Key requirements
- Degree qualified in Quantity Surveying, Building Surveying, Project Management, Construction Management, Engineering or related field
- MRICS or working towards MRICS (preferred)
- Experience in development/ project monitoring, technical due diligence, or related consultancy work, preferably with data centre or mission-critical exposure
- Strong understanding of construction processes, procurement, contracts, project controls, and funding structures
- Ability to review information, identify risks, and provide concise, commercially-focused advice
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills; capable of engaging with clients and professional teams
- Commercial awareness, attention to detail, and ability to manage multiple commissions and deadlines
