Overview

In this role you ensure safe, reliable operation of production machinery in a manufacturing environment. You will perform planned maintenance, breakdown repairs, electrical installations and improvement projects, working on PLC-controlled equipment and site services. You’ll read electrical drawings, maintain records, and support plant upgrades while collaborating with production teams and contractors. This is a hands-on, days-based position with a focus on reducing downtime and improving efficiency. Join a supportive team that values safety, practical problem solving, and continuous improvement.

Responsibilities

  • Carry out electrical maintenance and repairs across production machinery, site services and building installations
  • Complete planned preventative maintenance and follow up on identified defects
  • Diagnose and repair faults on machinery and industrial control systems
  • Work with PLC-controlled equipment, HMIs, variable-speed drives, motors, sensors and safety circuits
  • Support equipment installations, control modifications and machinery improvement projects
  • Read electrical drawings, update documentation and maintain accurate maintenance records
  • Undertake mechanical fault finding and repairs within your competence
  • Identify recurring faults and implement improvements to reduce downtime and maintenance costs
  • Follow safe isolation, lockout and site permit procedures
  • Work closely with production teams, contractors and other engineers

Key requirements

  • Minimum NVQ Level 3 in Electrical Engineering, Electrical Installation or a relevant electrical discipline
  • 18th Edition wiring regulations qualification
  • A recognised electrical apprenticeship or equivalent practical training
  • At least five years’ relevant electrical engineering experience within manufacturing
  • Strong electrical fault-finding skills across production machinery and industrial control systems
  • Experience carrying out planned maintenance, breakdown repairs and electrical installations
  • Ability to read electrical schematics and work independently
  • Practical mechanical maintenance skills
