Senior Software Engineer, Code Search

Overview

As a Senior Software Engineer on Blackbird, you will help build and operate the core code search infrastructure at scale. You’ll work within the Copilot Agents organization to improve reliability, automation, and security across distributed systems and CI/CD pipelines. You’ll translate data into improvements for developer tooling and product direction. Responsibilities

• Own system health and quality, including participation in on-call rotations
• Collect, classify and analyze metrics to diagnose issues and guide improvements
• Drive data-informed product refinement and engineering decisions
• Automate production and deployment processes to improve reliability
• Run tests in non-production environments to verify functionality
• Enhance development quality and velocity through better tooling
• Ensure security, privacy, safety, and accessibility processes and governance
• Create visibility through logs and reports to demonstrate compliance and health
• Leverage SLOs and stakeholder collaboration to plan work and releases
• Write architecture briefs, prototype solutions, and explore planetary-scale designs
• Design APIs for component integration and enable seamless collaboration
• Implement CI/CD pipelines for automated build, test, and deploy
• Maintain and write maintainable, scalable code across GitHub services
• Design, develop, test, and deliver high-quality scalable solutions

Key requirements

• 6+ years in software engineering with production coding experience in C/C++/C#/Java/JavaScript/Go/Ruby/Rust/Python, or
• Associate’s Degree in CS/EE/ECE/Math/Physics/etc. with 5+ years of production coding experience in the same languages, or
• Bachelor’s Degree in CS/EE/ECE/Math/Physics/etc. with 4+ years of production coding experience in the same languages, or
• Master’s Degree in CS/EE/ECE/Math/Physics/etc. with 2+ years of production coding experience in the same languages, or
• Doctorate in CS/EE/ECE/Math/Physics/etc. or equivalent experience
