Commercial Manager

Overview

As Asset commercial lead, you will own the commercial management of the Asset, coordinating with delivery, procurement, and risk teams to track performance and ensure contractual compliance. You will support Asset Teams on contractual matters and report on commercial performance, aligning with SHDU objectives and MWCC requirements. This role focuses on scope control, subcontractor coordination, and timely procurement to keep the programme on track. You will act as a bridge between commercial governance and delivery execution, shaping how scope, risk, and changes are handled. You will work in a structured, policy-driven environment to enable high-quality asset handover and assurance.

Responsibilities

• Define and maintain the asset scope with transparent change reflected in forecasting
• Identify delivery approach (self-delivery vs subcontractor) and name the subcontractor when subcontracted
• Manage Asset NCRs and Defects ensuring proper contractual processes to avoid MWCC Disallowed Cost
• Coordinate with Assurance Team to ensure all subcontractor information is received before Completion Certificate
• Work with procurement to ensure scope procurement aligns with programme and communicate remaining scope for procurement
• Issue instructions to subcontractors timely to prevent programme delays
• Ensure Stage 5 design scope for subcontractors is understood and design progress is visible
• Support delivery team in understanding scope
• Review Asset Programme narrative for MWCC Cl.32 submission to HS2 for contractual and commercial accuracy (CEs/PMIs, EWNs) cross-referencing with Risk as needed
