Identity and Access Management Engineer (IDAM and Azure)

Overview

In this role, you will design and operate Azure IAM and Microsoft Entra ID solutions to protect enterprise systems in cloud and hybrid environments. You will work with architects, security specialists and stakeholders to deliver secure, scalable identity and access management aligned to client security strategies. You’ll apply Zero Trust, MFA, SSO, and governance practices to enable least-privilege access and compliant operations. This is a leadership-ready opportunity within Methods’ Capabilities team to shape secure identity solutions for public- and private-sector clients.

Responsibilities

• Azure IAM design and implementation aligned to security strategies and requirements
• Build, configure and support Microsoft Entra ID environments (users, groups, apps, roles, tenant settings)
• Implement and secure cloud/hybrid identity architectures with AD integration, Entra Connect, federation and migrations
• Configure identity lifecycle (joiner/mover/leaver, RBAC, entitlement management, access reviews) and strong authentication controls
• Implement MFA, Conditional Access, SSO, passwordless and privileged identity management
• Apply Zero Trust across identity, device, network, app and data access decisions
• Produce technical documentation (designs, guides, deployment plans, handover materials)
• Collaborate with architects, cyber security specialists and stakeholders to ensure secure, deliverable IAM solutions
• Build and maintain identity lifecycle processes for onboarding, role changes, and leavers
• Configure and support Entra ID, AD, identity stores, federation services and access management platforms
• Implement and maintain SSO, MFA, CA, passwordless and modern authentication protocols
• Support identity integration with SaaS, LOB, Azure, M365 and enterprise infrastructure
• Develop and support RBAC, privileged access, access requests, approvals and recertifications
• Troubleshoot identity, authentication, synchronization, CA and access issues
• Ensure IAM solutions support auditability, least privilege and secure access to critical systems and data
• Configure security policies, CA controls, admin roles and privileged access processes
• Implement secure-by-design patterns aligned to Zero Trust and defence-in-depth
• Support governance processes including access reviews, entitlement management, audit reporting and policy enforcement
• Establish monitoring, logging, alerting and operational support for Entra ID and hybrid identity
• Investigate identity incidents and access-control defects
• Support testing, release management, migration and transition to live service
• Contribute to technical assurance reviews and improvement opportunities across Azure IAM
• Maintain awareness of identity threats and Entra updates
• Collaborate with delivery teams, architects, cyber security specialists and stakeholders to translate requirements into secure IDAM solutions
• Support pre-sales with technical input, estimates and solution options
• Contribute to reusable assets, accelerators and delivery standards for IAM
• Share knowledge to grow Methods’ cyber security, cloud and Microsoft capability

Key requirements

• Proven experience designing, implementing or supporting Azure Identity and Access Management solutions
• Strong understanding of Microsoft Entra ID, AD, cloud and hybrid identity, authentication, authorisation, federation, access governance and PAM
• Experience with Entra ID capabilities (CA, MFA, SSO, app registrations, entitlements, PIM)
• Knowledge of SAML, OAuth, OpenID Connect, LDAP and Kerberos
• Experience integrating identity services with Azure, M365, SaaS apps and on-premises infrastructure
• Understanding of Zero Trust, least privilege, identity governance, audit and cyber security best practice
• Ability to troubleshoot identity, access, authentication, synchronization and CA issues
• Experience working in Agile delivery teams and producing clear technical documentation
• Strong stakeholder management and ability to explain technical concepts to varied audiences
