Company | Technology-led financial markets business
Impact | Keep low-latency trading and security infrastructure reliable, resilient and ready to scale
Environment | Small expert team, live production platforms, cloud and on-premises infrastructure
Skills | Routing, switching, firewalls, OSPF, BGP, packet analysis
Location | London, with occasional data-centre visits
Hours | Shift rota between 06:30 and 18:30, with occasional weekend and bank-holiday cover
The Role
You’ll work on infrastructure where reliability is not theoretical. Your work will help keep live trading platforms, client connectivity and security services operating as they should, while giving you room to take on increasingly substantial project work.
You’ll join a small network team responsible for a low-latency estate spanning cloud and on-premises environments. That means a genuine mix of hands-on troubleshooting, planned change, capacity planning and client onboarding. You’ll investigate issues using monitoring data, logs and packet captures, work with telecoms providers on circuits and leased lines, and see the outcome of your work in a live environment.
This is a good fit if you enjoy methodical problem-solving, take pride in clear documentation and want to deepen your expertise in financial markets infrastructure. You’ll be trusted to contribute ideas, improve how the team works and learn from engineers who care about doing things properly.
What you’ll do
- Monitor and maintain network and security infrastructure, identifying faults before they become wider issues
- Investigate incidents using monitoring tools, logs and packet captures, then help drive root-cause analysis
- Support client connectivity, access requests and decommissioning
- Work with telecoms providers to resolve circuit, leased-line and connectivity issues
- Deliver and validate planned network and security changes
- Support live platforms during operational hours and contribute to capacity planning
- Maintain network diagrams, procedures and operational documentation
- Contribute to infrastructure projects, taking on greater ownership as you grow
What you’ll need
- Four or more years in network and security support engineering, ideally in a financial-services or similarly business-critical environment
- Hands-on experience with TCP/IP, routing, switching, firewalls, RSTP, OSPF and BGP
- Strong troubleshooting skills using Wireshark, tcpdump, syslog, network monitoring platforms and firewall traffic logs
Experience with Fortinet, Arista EOS, PTP, multicast, AWS networking, Ansible, Python or IPsec VPNs would be useful, but it is not essential.
