Highway / Infrastructure Design Engineer

Overview

In this role you will contribute to a multidisciplinary transport and infrastructure team, delivering highway and active travel schemes from concept through to detailed design and construction. You will work on a diverse portfolio across the UK, applying industry standards and design software to produce safe, sustainable solutions. For senior hires, you’ll lead complex projects, manage resources and mentor junior engineers while supporting client relationships. Responsibilities

• Develop highway and infrastructure designs from concept to detailed design
• Prepare and coordinate Section 278 and Section 38 submissions
• Design to standards such as DMRB, Manual for Streets, LTN 1/20
• Produce drainage strategies and infrastructure design solutions
• Utilise AutoCAD, Civil 3D and related design software
• Collaborate with clients, authorities, and stakeholders
• Contribute to technical documentation and design submissions
• Ensure delivery to timescales, budgets, and quality targets
• Senior: lead delivery of complex projects, manage programmes/resources/budgets
• Senior: mentor junior engineers, provide technical leadership and QA
• Senior: support business development and client relationships
• Senior: drive innovation and continuous improvement in design processes

Key requirements

• Experience delivering highway and infrastructure design projects in the UK
• Knowledge of Section 278 and Section 38 agreements
• Understanding of DMRB, Manual for Streets, and LT N 1/20
• Proficiency with AutoCAD and Civil 3D
• Strong written and verbal communication skills
• Ability to work independently and in a team
• Membership of CIHT, ICE or equivalent
